Platinum Fox

Platinum is part of the group of mutations which cause white markings, along with Whitemark, Ringneck and (surprisingly) Georgian/Snow foxes. All these mutations only show in heterozygous form, meaning a fox can only have a single gene for this mutation. Double genes are lethal so they cause a smaller litter size, even when mixing mutations within this group.

Platinum is created by breeding Silver foxes to Platinum foxes. The Platinum gene has a diluting effect, so the black color will be much less intense compared to a full Silver fox. A good way to check if a fox is Platinum or Whitemark/Ringneck is the color on the ears and tail. The color here is often much more pale compared to a non Platinum fox.
